1. Clean The Lint Filter Regularly

The lint filter is located inside the door of the washing machine, it’s important to clean the lint filter after every cycle because lint builds up quickly. A clogged lint filter can cause the machine to not work properly and lead to a breakdown.

2. Clean The Washing Machine’s Exterior

This is the most basic maintenance tip but many often overlook it. Make sure to clean the outside of the machine with a damp cloth and mild detergent.

3. Leave The Door Open When Not In Use

Leaving the door open after each cycle will help to prevent mold and mildew from forming in the machine. This also helps to keep the musty smell away from the machine.

4. Clean The Interior Of The Washing Machine

Clean the interior of the machine from time to time to remove any dirt and debris. Use a soft cloth and mild detergent to clean the inside of the machine.

5. Get It Serviced Regularly

Service your washing machine regularly to ensure that it is in good working condition. A qualified technician will be able to identify any problems and fix them before they become bigger issues.

6. Use The Right Detergent

Although this might sound simple, the choice of detergent can either do our machine good or bad. That is why manufacturers always recommend the type of detergent to use and the amount. For instance, High-efficiency detergent is always recommended for high-efficiency washing machines. Therefore, ensure you are checking the manufacturer’s guide on the detergent to use and the amount that  will go with it

7. Avoid Overloading

Overloading can decrease your washer efficiency and you can even end up with clothes that are not well-cleaned. Even worse, it can wreak havoc on the internal part of the washer in the long run. A good rule of thumb is to check the appliance manual to determine the capacity of the washing machine. But an average machine can carry 10-12 pounds of laundry.

8. Keep An Eye On The Hoses

It is important to conduct regular checks on your washer’s hose every few months. Look out for blisters in the hose, cracks, worn tubing, discoloration, or any sign that the hose is loosening. These are signs that signal the hose is getting damaged and might need replacement  Also tighten the hoses up where necessary. Hoses play a huge role in the flow of water inwardly and outwardly. Ensure they are properly connected and not damaged to avoid water spillage.

By following these simple steps, your washer will be in good condition and extend its lifetime. These tips are easy to follow at home and are simple things that can make a big difference in the care of your machine. “While doing laundry, check the clothes’ pockets for coins, money, or any other items. These things can beat hard on the drum and cause damage. Take caution while using the washing machine and don’t be too hard on it.
